Got milk? | In celebration of breastfeeding

Got milk? Celebrating breastfeeding, because it's not best... it's normal.

My husband was a great sport to take this photo for me.

You know why? Because he supports me. And because he supports my desire to encourage other women in something that’s so, so good.

Let’s not worry so much about “breast is best”. It’s a tired cliche. There’s not much debate out there about the merit of this like-no-other super food.

What I want to see changed is the fear and insecurity surrounding breastfeeding that some women feel. And the fact that not everyone sees it as “normal”.

Because, come on, what could be more normal?

I’m well aware that some women cannot breastfeed, or simply choose not to. This is not meant to be a smug little commentary to them. By no means.

What this is is a celebration of just how normal and wonderful and amazing mama-milk is.

How creative and clever is God?

And how lucky are we?

Dear friends, I’m joining with mamas all over the world to celebrate and wish you a happy World Breastfeeding Week. May you feel free to breastfeed in public or in private or wherever you may be when your little one gets hungry or needs comfort. And–as you’re able–may you do your part in making breastfeeding a big deal… so that it can be normal again.
